The New York Rangers have acquired winger Arthur Kaliyev from the Los Angeles Kings after he was placed on waivers. This move comes as the Rangers look to address their struggles this season, particularly after trading Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken. Kaliyev, 23, has yet to see NHL action this season due to a clavicle injury suffered during training camp.
The Kings activated forwards Trevor Lewis and Trevor Moore, leading to the decision to waive Kaliyev. The Rangers were seventh in waiver priority and opted to claim the young player, giving them a low-cost option as they seek to turn around a disappointing season that has seen them lose 16 of their last 22 games.
Born in Uzbekistan and raised in the U.S., Kaliyev is on a league-minimum salary of $825,000 and will be a restricted free agent after this season. Having been a second-round pick in 2019, he brings valuable experience, including power play capabilities, and he is expected to fill a role on one of New York's lower lines.
