JJ Peterka shone for the Buffalo Sabres with a goal and an assist, ultimately netting the decisive goal in a shootout to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory against the Washington Capitals.
Alongside Peterka, Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson also contributed with goals, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made a remarkable 25 saves, including stopping three out of four shooters during the shootout. This victory halted the Sabres' three-game losing streak, with Tuch also scoring in the shootout.
Peterka got the Sabres on the board early, scoring his 11th goal of the season just over four minutes into the first period. He assisted Thompson's power-play goal, which gave Buffalo a temporary 3-2 lead in the second period.
For the Capitals, Tom Wilson was a standout with two goals, and Aliaksei Protas contributed with a goal and an assist. Charlie Lindgren made 24 saves, but ultimately, the Capitals fell short. Despite his team's efforts, captain Alex Ovechkin was unable to add to his goal tally, remaining 23 goals shy of Wayne Gretzky's legendary record.
